Crews continue to work on stormwater and water utility lines along the new General McIntosh Blvd. Crews are currently installing stormwater drainage lines near the new intersection of Randolph Street and General McIntosh Blvd. Water main installation in this area is nearing completion and the next step will be installation of a water main casing under General McIntosh Blvd.
On the south side of President Street, surcharge (the area loaded with dirt mounds) is starting to be removed in preparation for utility installation. This area had to be pre-loaded with surcharge material for six months to consolidate the soil before pipe installation. If the soil in this area was not compacted with surcharge, pipes would continue to settle after installation and eventually lead to pipe failure.
Additional crews should be onsite soon in preparation for boring a water main under President Street. This operation will allow traffic to continue on President Street without lane closure. Crews will also be on the south side of President Street installing utility lines from Truman Parkway to Randolph Street.
