The General McIntosh and President Street Improvement
project is current in the surcharge consolidation settlement period. As
planned, this period of time in the project schedule results in the least
amount of observable activity. Although the project doesn’t appear as
active during this period, this is a very critical time of surcharge
monitoring. A determination must be made as to when consolidation
settlement has been obtained. If surcharge is removed too soon, future
significant settlement of the finished roadway and new utility lines may
result. This period is predicted to take another month or two before consolidation
settlement has been reached.
As
areas on the majority of the project await consolidation settlement, one crew
continues to install new utility lines through the newly bored casing
underneath the railroad tracks and new Bilbo Canal on the south side of
President Street, just west of the Truman Parkway.
The
Bridge and Canal crew continue to drive pile and install reinforced concrete
canal walls for the new Bilbo Canal on the south side of President
Street. This crew will finish up the canal walls on the south side of
President Street this week, and will be moving to the north side of President
Street to begin these canal walls. Fill material was placed on the
north side of President Street to provide a temporary work area for the construction
of the north canal walls. Where this temporary fill was placed will
ultimately be the new 90’ wide excavated Bilbo Canal.
