Traffic
was shifted to the north last week along President Street using previously
installed areas of temporary pavement. Pavement markings were adjusted to
accommodate the new travel lanes. Now that traffic is shifted to the
north, crews will be able to obliterate asphalt along the southern edge of
President Street and place additional backfill material for the new elevated
roadway. Backfill currently placed along the south side of President
Street is at approximately three feet below what is to be the future roadway
elevation.
Utility
line installations have been completed along existing Randolph Street and along
the new section of Congress Street. Various utility line installations
remain along General McIntosh Blvd. Crews are currently coordinating with
the City to pressure test, flush, and chlorinate newly installed water
mains.
Jack
and bore of steel casings underneath the railroad tracks and future Bilbo
Canal, just south of President Street and west of Truman Parkway,
continues. Steel casing that will later be used for the installation of
water, sewer force main, and AGL’s natural gas main are currently being
installed.
Construction of the Bilbo Canal and President Street bridge
over the future canal continues. Crews have been driving steel
H-piles over 65’ into the ground to establish a solid foundation for the
construction of the future Bilbo Canal concrete retaining walls. This
section of canal wall is being constructed of concrete verses typical steel
sheet pile due to the existing sanitary sewer and future water, sewer force
main, and AGL natural gas main steel casing penetrations required for crossing
underneath the future canal and through the canal walls.
