Earthwork
operations continue on the south side of President Street. Required
undercutting in this area should be complete in the next week or two.
Once undercutting is complete, fill material will continue to be placed
elevating and surcharging the new roadway and utility corridor.
Other
crews continue the water, sewer, and stormwater utility line installations
along Randolph Street, and the installation of the new 24” water main along the
east side of General McIntosh Boulevard. Once new water main utility
lines are installed and connections to existing lines are made on the east side
of General McIntosh, crews will be able to begin undercutting and backfill
earthwork operations necessary along the new General McIntosh Boulevard
corridor and location of the new President Street and General McIntosh
Boulevard intersection.
A
forth crew continues working on the installation of jack and bore steel casings
underneath the railroad tracks, just south of President Street and west of
Truman Parkway.
The
project requires a section of the future Bilbo Canal and bridge over this canal
to be constructed. The new canal will run from just south of President
Street to the Savannah River. A bridge will be built along President
Street where it crosses over the Bilbo Canal. Delivery of steel sheet
piles have begun arriving on site to prepare for the bridge and canal
construction portion of the project.
