June 2, 2015 Update

Posted on June 2, 2015 at 10:10 AM by Saja Aures

Earth work operations on the south side of President Street are now in full swing following relocation of utility conflicts and installation of temporary water mains.  Crews will continue the removal of unsuitable soils and placement of select backfill over the next few weeks.  A minor initial lane shift has been incorporated within the east bound lanes of President Street to move traffic away from the edge of pavement so crews can safely continue work along the road shoulder.  This lane shift will also minimize the need for temporary single lane closures along President Street (currently only approved for low traffic volume times of the day and only as required).

A separate crew has begun installation of new utility lines (water main, sewer force main, and storm drain) at the intersection of General McIntosh and Randolph Street.  These new utility lines will continue to be installed along Randolph Street south towards Broughton Street before connecting into new utility lines recently installed in that area under a previous City of Savannah capital improvement project.

A third crew continues working on the new water and sewer mains which will run underneath the Truman Parkway just south of President Street.  These water and sewer mains will eventually be installed from the Randolph Street and President Street intersection to east of the Truman Parkway as part of this overall project.
