Georgia was one of the 13 original colonies that declared independence from Great Britain on July 4, 1776, and Savannahians made significant contributions to these and subsequent events in the history of the United States.

In recognition of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S., which will be celebrated officially on July 4, 2026, the Savannah US250 Event Calendar provides information on events and celebrations across Savannah and Chatham County that educate and honor this achievement and its ongoing positive effects in the world.

Local groups in both the public and private sectors are encouraged to celebrate, commemorate, and observe the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the Revolutionary War, and the founding of the U.S. through civic, cultural, educational, and historical events and programming through December 31, 2026. Share your events with us through this online form.
