Renovation of MLK Civic Center: February 25, 2026 Open House
The City hosted an open house on Wednesday, February 25, to share plans for the renovation of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Civic Center. The project includes a complete renovation of the Johnny Mercer Theatre, meeting rooms and ballroom, along with the addition of new multipurpose spaces to expand opportunities for community, cultural and event activities. During the meeting, the City shared findings from market research, program analysis and operational studies. Community members were given opportunities to provide feedback to help guide the design and programming of the updated facility for public use.

Civic Legacy and Railroad District Survey
The Railroad District, home to the Savannah History Museum, Visitor Center, Savannah Children’s Museum, and Georgia State Railroad Museum, is an important community asset and part of the Central of Georgia Railroad National Historic Landmark District. The City of Savannah is studying its City-owned property here to help guide future plans while protecting and preserving historic resources. Public input is an invaluable part of the process.
