Pedestrian Signals 101

The City of Savannah has installed two types of pedestrian signals at non-signalized intersections around our community.

  • Rapid Flashing Beacons
  • High-intensity Activated crossWalK (H.A.W.K.) signals

It's important for both pedestrians and drivers to follow the signal directions for everyone's safety.

Drivers:

  • Stay alert to your surroundings, be ready to stop
  • Slow down! Higher speeds equal higher risk of a fatality with a pedestrian involved traffic accident
  • Be responsive to the directions of any traffic/pedestrian signals
  • Always wait for pedestrians to completely cross safely before proceeding

Pedestrians

  • When these signals are available, please use them for your safety
  • After you push the button and the signal is activated, always wait for traffic to come to a complete stop
  • Acknowledge the stopped drivers and remember to look both ways before crossing safely
