City Announces Appointment of I-Team Director, Interim Economic Development Director

SAVANNAH – The City of Savannah’s Senior Director of Economic Development, Manny Dominguez, has been appointed the I-Team Director as part of the Bloomberg American Sustainable Cities Grant.

Dominguez has served the City of Savannah for nine years in the Economic Development Department, improving its operational systems and setting the department up for continued success and service excellence.  Dominguez will begin in his new role on Aug. 26.

Earlier this year, the City of Savannah was selected by Bloomberg Philanthropies as one of the 25 U.S. cities to join Bloomberg American Sustainable Cities, a three-year initiative designed to leverage federal funding to implement transformative local solutions and build low-carbon, resilient, and economically thriving communities.

By participating, the City is receiving a Bloomberg Philanthropies funded innovation team (I-Team) with up to three dedicated staff. Dominguez will act as Director of the I-Team with two additional staff members. The team will focus on boosting the City’s capacity in driving progress on climate mitigation and promoting equitable outcomes.

“We are grateful for Manny’s many years of dedication to the City of Savannah and excited for his new role,” City Manager Joseph A. Melder said. “Over the next three years, Manny will remain a driving force within the City of Savannah, operating through the Bloomberg American Sustainable Cities Grant, and we look forward to the work he will be doing to enrich the lives of all Savannahians.”

Assistant Director of Economic Development, MarRonde Lumpkin-Lotson, has been appointed to serve as interim Economic Development Director, effective Aug. 26. A national search for the permanent position will be conducted in the coming weeks.  Lumpkin-Lotson has served the City for nearly 25 years in various roles.
