Savannah Firefighters Assist with DPH COVID-19 Vaccinations

SAVANNAH, GA (Thursday, February 11, 2021) – Savannah Fire Department Firefighters began assisting Department of Public Health (DPH) personnel with the administration of COVID-19 vaccines to scheduled patients at a Chatham County Health Department vaccination center today.

“Beginning today, the Savannah Fire Department has partnered with the Department of Public Health to help them administer scheduled vaccinations at their clinic,” said Savannah Fire Battalion Chief Joseph Shaw. “Savannah Fire is committed to assisting the community in the fight against this pandemic.”

Over the last three years Savannah Firefighters have completed paramedic and advanced EMTS training. A total of 11 Savannah Fire Department Firefighters will eventually be involved in the local vaccination effort.

Vaccinations are being administered in priority phases at DPH centers by appointment only. All appointments must be made through the Department of Public Health’s Coastal Health District Vaccination Center. For information about scheduling COVID-19 vaccination appointments, visit the Chatham County Health Department website at https://covid19.gachd.org/vaccine/ or call 912-230-5506.
