Wilemere Place Cooking Fire Displaces Three

SAVANNAH, GA (Thursday, September 3, 2020) – The Savannah Fire Department was dispatched to a cooking fire in the 2300 Block of Wilemere Place at 2:56 p.m., Thursday, September 3. Battalion Chief Jack McCutchen was the first to arrive on scene. Firefighters discovered that a resident left the house while fish was frying in the kitchen. The unattended pan on the stove ignited a fire, which spread to the attic. Although fast acting firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, the kitchen, attic and dining room sustained heavy water damage. No one was physically injured. However, power to the structure was cut and three people were displaced.

Most kitchen fires are preventable. Always stay in the kitchen while food is frying. Turn off the burners if the grease begins to smoke or you have to leave the room.
