Dr. LaTrelle Porter is a native of Savannah and graduate of Savannah High School. Dr. Porter's interest in Human Resources began while pursuing her BBA in Management from Savannah State. She received her second BBA in Human Resources Management from Georgia Southern University, MA in Human Resources Department and Management from Webster University, MS in Leader Development and PhD in Management with an emphasis on Leadership and Organizational Change from Walden University. In 2018, Dr. Porter presented her dissertation "Exploring the Employability of African American Ex-offenders in Local Government" at The Quality Report (TQR) 9th Annual Conference at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. While pursuing her PhD, she worked as an adjunct at Webster University's Ft. Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield campuses teaching courses in Management, Human Resources Management, Organizational Development and Staffing.
Dr. Porter began her management career in the retail industry working for two major organizations. In January 1998, she began her career with the City of Savannah as a Communications Specialist at the Savannah Police Department. In July 2001, she accepted the position of HR Assistant in the City Human Resources Department. She was promoted to HR Technician in the benefits division and promoted to HR Analyst making the transitioning back to recruiting. Dr. Porter has gained valuable experience in all facets of human resources to include recruiting, benefits, employee relations, payroll, HRIS, employment law and performance management. Dr. Porter has been with the City of Savannah for 22 years and currently serves as HR Business Partner. Dr. Porter is a member of the Georgia Local Government Personnel Association (GLGPA), where she earned her Certification in Human Resources Management (CHRM) and Advanced Certification in Human Resources (ACHRM) from the Carl Vinson Institute of Georgia. She is a member of the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR).
Dr. Porter has been a member of SHRM National and SHRM Savannah since 2010. She earned both the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and SHRM-CP certifications. She has served on the membership committee and has volunteered with the SHRM Foundation since 2010. She is the current President-Elect and Workforce Readiness Committee Chair for SHRM Savannah.
