CURRENT & UPCOMING PROJECTS

Vision Zero isn’t just a goal, it’s a growing movement. Here’s a snapshot of what’s happening on Savannah streets:

  • Permanent speed tables installed in neighborhoods including Cloverdale, Windsor Forest, and Liberty City helping to slow speeds and improve walkability.
  • New traffic calming projects in design for neighborhoods such as Spring Lakes, Savannah Gardens, Windsor Forest Traffic Circle, and Fernwood/Parkwood.
  • Signal safety studies underway at key corridors including Drayton Street at Hall Street, Liberty at Bull Street, Skidaway Road at Sunset Drive, designed to identify and address high-risk intersections.
  • In-field crash reviews and audits are helping us understand where improvements are needed most, with ongoing collaboration from the Savannah Police Department.
  • Tide-to-Town, Savannah’s growing 30-mile network of protected walking and biking trails, is progressing through Phase 2B (52nd St/Bee Rd to DeRenne Ave). The trail enhances connectivity and supports Savannah Vision Zero by improving safety and mobility for all users. Stay tuned for upcoming trail openings and events!

CROSSWALK INNOVATIONS

Pedestrian safety is one of our top priorities. To protect those on foot, we’re implementing modern crosswalk technologies like:

  • HAWK Signals (High-Intensity Activated Crosswalks): Signalized mid-block crossings that stop traffic when pedestrians activate them.
  • RFBs (Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons): Bright, flashing lights that alert drivers when someone is crossing the street.
  • Lighted Crosswalks: In-ground lighting that activates as pedestrians cross, improving nighttime visibility and safety.

These tools are helping make walking in Savannah safer, smarter, and more visible.

COMING SOON

Interactive Traffic Calming Map

We’re excited to announce that we’ll soon be launching a Savannah Vision Zero Traffic Calming Map, an online tool designed to:

  • Track temporary and permanent traffic calming installations
  • Highlight reduced speed limit zones
  • Show project timelines and progress updates

This map will provide a transparent, real-time view of how we’re implementing Vision Zero strategies across the city.
