Mayor Edna B. Jackson was honored this morning with the inaugural Savannah Fashion Advocate Award by the organizers of Savannah Fashion Week 2014 for her “ardent support of Savannah’s fashion design and retail community.”
“Broughton Street is the fashion center of Savannah, and to everyone involved in the fashion industry – thank you for all that you do for this city,” Mayor Jackson said. “You make Savannah look good.”
Savannah Fashion Week President Heather Burge presented Mayor Jackson with the award during a news conference on Broughton Street that kicked off Savannah Fashion Week 2014, which runs through Friday.
“We’re thrilled to be able to present this honor to Mayor Jackson,” Burge said. “She has been a great friend to the fashion community. And her inimitable and colorful personal style has made her a perfect ambassador for Savannah’s unique fashion character.”
Celebrating its fifth year, Savannah Fashion Week showcases the best of Savannah design, including fashion, accessories and jewelry. The weeklong celebration will be highlighted by the runway show on Thursday, May 1, in Forsyth Park.
