SCAC To Host Round Table Featuring Beyond Sight Artists

SAVANNAH (Nov. 15, 2023) – The Savannah Cultural Arts Center will host a round table featuring the artists who created the new accessibility-focused gallery Beyond Sight on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m.

The Beyond Sight exhibition features tactile sculptures, interactive installations, and audiovisual experiences designed specifically for low-vision or no-vision participants. Each exhibit encourages visitors to touch, hear, and interact with the artwork, highlighting the gallery’s inclusive and accessible focus.

The exhibition, curated by Antonia B. Larkin, features several local artists who will be in conversation about the work at the round table event. The artwork is inspired by world renowned artist Keith Harring’s sentiment, that “Art is for everybody.”

“Our goal with this exhibition was to enable those who are differently abled to experience the art in a deeper way,” Larkin said. “Being able to actually touch and interact with the artwork emphasizes that everyone should be able to enjoy art, even in ways beyond visual perception.”

Thursday’s round table will feature artists Joshua Alexander, Samantha Mack, and Abigail Tankersley discussing their pieces and the importance of inclusivity and accessibility in art. They will also answer questions from the audience.

Beyond Sight gallery is free and open to public viewing at Savannah Cultural Arts Center, 201 Montgomery St. through Nov. 18.
