Reminder: Winter Is The Peak Time For Fire-Related Deaths
SFD Invite Public, Media To Safety Discussion
SAVANNAH (Oct. 19) – As the winter months approach, many people will be heating their homes to stay warm. Historically, this time of year can be one of the most dangerous times for house fires.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, heating equipment is one of the leading causes of home fires. Winter months are also the peak time for fire-related deaths.
The Savannah Fire Department (SFD) wants the public to be aware of possible dangers related to heating equipment during this busy time and to remember to change your smoke detector batteries as we prepare to move our clocks back in a couple weeks.
To minimize the risk, SFD is inviting the public and media to have a discussion with Fire Chief Elzie Kitchen on how to best reduce the risk of heating equipment related fires next Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. SFD headquarters at 121 E. Oglethorpe Ave.
All media are encouraged to attend.
