Sanitation Announces New Glass Drop-Off Locations
SAVANNAH (Oct. 11, 2023) – The City of Savannah’s Sanitation Department has been awarded the prestigious Environmental Impact Award by Pratt Industries, honoring the 15-year partnership and the City’s dedication to recycling and sustainability.
The award will be officially presented to the City of Savannah's Sanitation Department during the 2 p.m. City Council meeting on Thursday, Oct. 12. Local officials, Pratt Industries representatives, and community leaders will be in attendance to celebrate this remarkable achievement.
This award recognizes the outstanding commitment of the City of Savannah's Sanitation Department to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
“The City of Savannah is very honored to receive this award.” Kevin Exley, City of Savannah, Director of Commercial and Recycling Services said. “It highlights the dedication we have put forth to make our city green. The City of Savannah has worked hard to maintain and grow our recycling program with initiatives like our very successful Glass Recycle Program.
“The city is also committed to purchasing reusable materials through the Single Use Plastic Phase-Out. All these initiatives reduce these items from our waste and recycle stream which will help reduce cost as well as continue our effort to be the best Recycling City we can be.”
Most recently, the Sanitation Department opened three new drop-off locations for glass recycling. The Highlands Fire Station (480 Highlands Dr.), New Hampstead Pump Station Site (113 Little Neck Road), and Lathrop Ave, in the parking of SPD NW Precinct (602 E. Lathrop Ave.) are open for public use, bringing the total number of glass-recycling drop-off locations to seven.
