City crews respond to minor sewage spill at Alfred Street

SAVANNAH (Dec. 8) – City of Savannah Sewer Conveyance staff responded to a minor sewage spill on Dec. 7 at 157 Alfred Street in Savannah.

The spill resulted from a surcharge in an 8-inch gravity sewer main due to high levels at Lift Station 28. The spill impacted the storm drainage system to Dundee Canal, which flows to the Savannah River. An estimated 655 gallons spilled before being corrected. State Environmental Protection Division guidelines classify this as a minor spill, which is a spill under 10,000 gallons.

The City is making spill notifications via a news release and area signage. All agencies (Georgia Environmental Protection Division, Health Department and the City of Savannah Office of Marketing and Communications) were notified per state guidelines.
