Noteworthy Savannah digital postcard collection
The Municipal Archives is pleased to announce a new collection of Savannah-area postcards donated by the city’s very own deltiologist (a fancy word for postcard collector), Alderman Nick Palumbo, is now open to the public for research. Dive into more than 600 postcards and explore Savannah’s streets, squares, buildings, neighborhoods, major historical events and much more - some images never before seen by Municipal Archives’ staff! But these are more than just pretty pictures. The collection traces the chronological journey through the history of postcard production, from the early Pioneer and Private Mailing Card eras of the 19th century to the Linen and Photochrome eras of the 20th century.
The postcards have been digitized and are available through the Archives’ Digital Image Catalog at: https://bit.ly/palumbocoll. Want to know more about the history of postcards? Check out the online exhibit “Noteworthy Savannah” and the accompanying talk by Palumbo, “A Greater Savannah: An Era of Noteworthy Civic Innovation,” both available online at: https://bit.ly/2YV4BeQ.
