City crews respond to minor sewage spills
SAVANNAH (Sept. 22) – City of Savannah Sewer Conveyance staff responded to minor sewage spills Sept. 21 at 1599 Stiles Ave. (3,700 gallons), 146 E. 60th Ln. (4,100 gallons), 3100 W. Victory Dr. (6,400 gallons) and East DeRenne Avenue at the Casey Canal (610 gallons).
Significant inflow of rainwater caused the sewer system to become overwhelmed and manholes to overflow. Each spill released less than 10,000 gallons before being corrected, classifying them as minor spills under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.
Spill notification is being made via news release and area signage. All agencies (Georgia Environmental Protection Division, Health Department and the City of Savannah Office of Marketing and Communications) were notified per state guidelines.
