Mayor Johnson to announce racial equity and leadership taskforce

Mayor Van R. Johnson, II and former Mayor Dr. Otis Johnson will announce the formation of the Savannah Racial Equity and Leadership (REAL) taskforce at a news conference at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, at City Hall.

Dr. Otis Johnson, a noted social scientist, will be leading the effort to investigate disparities in our city and provide solutions to them.

“It is time to take the perception out of the disparities that exist in Savannah and instead use data to identify, prioritize and tackle these issues,” Mayor Johnson said. “It’s going to take some work. It’s going to require us to have some courageous conversations. We are up to the task, and I am grateful Dr. Otis Johnson is lending us his leadership and expertise.”
