SAVANNAH, GA (August 31, 2018) — The City of Savannah is hosting a “Day of Service” next week at the Savannah Civic Center where agencies will come together to provide services to Savannah residents. The “Day of Service” is the second phase of the City’s “Connecting the Dots” efforts to address poverty and improve citizens’ economic position.

Several agencies will be on hand in the Civic Center arena from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 8 to offer services including applications for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid benefits; transportation assistance, housing, utility and rental assistance, and more. Anyone needing assistance with utility bills must bring their bill with them.

Residents will also be able to apply for continuing education courses, GED and Commercial Driver’s License certification. WorkSource Coastal will be on hand to offer employment assistance. The Forsyth Farmers Market produce truck will be there to purchase fresh food. EBT cards will be accepted. Short information sessions, from 30 minutes to an hour, will also be offered throughout the day. (See attachment)

To receive maximum service benefits attendees should bring a photo ID if they have one, a social security card and birth certificates. The first event Connecting the Dots, “A Conversation on Poverty” was held in late July. That event brought together service providers, government and public institutions, private sector employers, faith-based organizations and community organizations to discuss poverty solutions.

The City’s Connecting the Dots events align with the Savannah Forward strategic plan priority of Economic Strength and Poverty Reduction.
