Savannah Rainproof is modeled after Amsterdam Rainproof. The program was a recommendation from the Dutch Dialogues which former Mayor Deloach and city staff attended in Charleston, SC in 2019.
A small pilot has been funded through a Georgia 319(h) grant. The target area for 60 rain barrels and 4 rain gardens is Jacob G. Smith Elementary School and the surrounding Lamara Heights Neighborhood. This site was selected due to recurrent flooding of the school and the intersection of Lamara and Habersham Streets.
Once the project is complete the City will be looking to highlight your rain gardens and rain barrel installations! We hope to promote one every month and keep a website with links to descriptions and photos.
