Eligibility Requirements for Boards, Commissions, and Authorities 

Aging Services Advisory Council

  • Over the age of 60
  • At least one representative must be a minority

Chatham Area Transit Authority (CAT)

  • User of the transit system
  • City resident

Chatham County/City of Savannah Landbank Authority

  • Chatham County resident
  • Employee or elected officials of Chatham County and/or the City of Savannah. 
  • Special interest, experience or education in urban planning, real estate, community development, finance or related matters.

Chatham Environmental Forum

  • No geographical requirement

Chatham-Savannah Authority for the Homeless

  • Chatham County resident at the time of appointment and while holding office

Civil Service Board

  • US citizen and resident of Savannah for at least five years preceding appointment
  • One member from the labor group, one member from the business group and one member from the professional group
  • The labor Seat should be filled by someone who is not a management-level employee: this person does not have to be a member of a labor union. 

Coastal Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (CORE MPO)

  • Elected officials of the local government entities or their designees, GDOT representative, as well as modal representatives from the transit, port and airport.

Coastal Region Metropolitan Planning Organization Citizens Advisory Committee (CORE MPO CAC)

  • City resident

Coastal Workforce Development Board

  • The appointed can represent the local region by residing or working in the City/County.
  • Must have a genuine interest in improving the quality of the region’s workforce while representing their county, respectively

Code Enforcement Appeals Board

  • City resident.
  • Three (3) appointees must be qualified in the fields of architecture and/or structural engineering.

Cultural Affairs Commission

  • Shall not be a paid staff member of an art agency
  • Shall have an interest in the arts and in programs to use the arts to enhance the quality of life in the community

Downtown Savannah Authority

  • Residents and qualified voters of the City of Savannah

Economic Opportunity Authority

  • Chatham County resident

Ethics Board

  • One member shall be an attorney in good standing with the State bar.
  • Members must reside in the City and not be an elected official or City employee.
  • Board members shall be prohibited from engaging in City election, political activities, and from making campaign contributions to candidates in City elections during their terms as board members.

Greater Savannah International Alliance

  • The members of the Greater Savannah International Alliance shall be a demographically broad representation of the community and economy in the Savannah Metropolitan Area with an interest in international issues.

Historic District Board of Review

  • City resident
  • Interest in the preservation and development of the historic district
  • One or more representatives from a preservation-related profession

Historic Preservation Advisory Council

  • The appointee should be a well-acquainted member of the community and have knowledge in some of the following areas:  national register nomination, historic tax incentives, streetscapes and urban design, historical research and surveys or presentation.

Historic Preservation Commission

  • City resident
  • Must demonstrate a special interest in the preservation of historic resources

Hospital Authority of Savannah

  • None specified

Housing Authority of Savannah

  • No commissioner of an authority may be an officer or employee of the city or county for which the authority is created.

Keep Savannah Beautiful

  • Shall include representatives from the news media, businesses, City government, civic associations, and neighborhood groups.

Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC)

  • City resident

Park and Tree Commission

  • City resident.
  • Shall have a demonstrated interest in the urban forest and scenic parks and in programs to enhance the quality of life in the community

Pension Board

  • City resident

Pilotage Commission

  • Appointees must include shipping agents, exports, or merchants, or others engaged on or familiar with marine shipping and the requirements of the Port of Savannah.
  • Appointees cannot be pilots.

Savannah Airport Commission

  • Chatham County resident.

Savannah/Chatham Board of Health

  • Consumer or licensed nurse interested in promoting Public Health.

Savannah-Chatham Council of Disability Issues

  • Members with representation balanced among the business community, human service providers, and consumers (i.e., citizens with disabilities).
  • At least ½ of members shall be persons with persons with physical or mental disabilities.

Savannah-Chatham Historic Sites and Monuments Commission

  • Citizen of Chatham County

Savannah Convention and Visitors Bureau (Visit Savannah)

  • City of Savannah holds two positions – one for the City Manager and one for a member of City Council

Savannah Development and Renewal Authority (SDRA)

  • City resident at time of appointment and while holding office

Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA)

  • Chatham County resident
  • No one holding public office or receiving compensation from either public entity can serve.

Savannah Recreation Commission

  • City resident

Savannah Resource Recovery Development Authority

  • Chatham County resident

Savannah Zoning Board of Appeals

  • City resident
  • Members cannot hold public office, except for one appointee who must be a current member of the Metropolitan Planning Commission.

Tourism Advisory Committee

  • One (1) shall be a representative of the Historic Savannah Foundation; Two (2) shall be representatives of the Downtown Neighborhood Association; One (1) shall be a representative of the Victorian Neighborhood Association; One (1) shall be a representative of the Thomas Square Neighborhood Association; One (1) shall be a representative of Visit Savannah; One (1) shall be a representative of the Tourism Leadership Council; One (1) shall be a representative of the lodging industry, appointed by Visit Savannah; One (1) shall be a representative of a motorized tour company, appointed by the Tourism Leadership Council; and One (1) shall be a representative of a non-motorized tour company, appointed jointly by the Tourism Leadership Council and Visit Savannah.

Traffic Calming Committee

  • City resident
  • Demographically broad representation of the community in the Savannah Metropolitan Area with an interest in Traffic Calming. 

United Way Board of Trustees

  • City of Savannah holds one position – member of City Council
