Description:
The Metropolitan Planning Commission was established in 1955 by General Assembly. It is the duty of the commission to make a master plan for the orderly growth of the district, the residential and industrial development thereof, and to amend such plan from time to time as it may be deemed proper, and to furnish copies and recommend acceptance thereof to the county and cities involved. Aided by professional staff, this commission makes studies of present and future development; assists local government in translating study results into plans, policies and programs; recommends zoning ordinances and subdivision regulations.

Twelve (12) members appointed with six (6) appointments made by City Council and the City Manager serving.
