About the Department
The Department of Cultural Affairs is responsible for ensuring that a variety of quality artistic, cultural, and heritage-based opportunities are available and accessible to the citizens and visitors of Savannah.

The Department of Cultural Affairs has four administrative employees and four program employees. To provide a broad range of cultural and educational opportunities, local, and regional artists and program organizers are contracted by the department. The Cultural Affairs Commission, an advisory board appointed by the Mayor and Aldermen, meets annually to recommend purchases of cultural services from eligible organizations within the community. The services include a variety of programs such as theatrical and dance productions, classes, youth camps, workshops, visual art programs, lectures, exhibitions and festivals. In 2013, this department will administrate the contracts with Savannah's cultural agencies and directly produce over 1000 services for the benefit of Savannah's citizens and visitors.

Festivals
Each year, the Department of Cultural Affairs supports and/or directly produces a number of major festivals, most of which are free and open to the public. DCA in-house produced events are the Tara Feis Irish Celebration in March and the Savannah Asian Festival and Picnic in the Park. Other festivals that are indirectly sponsored by DCA through cultural contribution funding include:

• Black Heritage Festival in February
• Savannah Music Festival in March
• Fiesta Latina in September
• Savannah Jazz Festival in September
• Annual Savannah Folk Music Festival in October
• Savannah Film Festival
• Savannah Children's Book Festival in November

Technical Resource Center
In addition to producing and presenting cultural opportunities, the Department of Cultural Affairs serves as a resource center providing technical assistance to cultural organizations, program information and marketing services, a cultural calendar, grant writing and funding workshops, an e-newsletter, a cultural cable program.
