Vegetation

Planting of flowers, shrubs or trees on lots or graves shall not be permitted.

Monuments, Markers, Slabs and Ledgers

Only one monument will be permitted on each lot. The base of the monument shall not exceed 80% of the width of the lot and the front of the base shall be three (3) feet from the rear lot line. No boxing or tiling shall be placed at the back, front or end of the base of the monument. Individual grave markers (or headstones) shall be level with the ground and will be installed at the foot of the graves. Slabs or ledgers shall not exceed six inches (6") above the ground.

Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 of Greenwich Cemetery

In addition to the above, the following additional rules shall apply to Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 of Greenwich Cemetery:

  • All burial lots shall consist of two burial spaces.
  • Only one upright monument per lot owner not to exceed 80% of the width of the lot(s), base not to exceed sixteen (16) inches in width. The front of the base shall be eight feet six inches (8' 6") from the front lot lines and shall have a minimum height of twenty-two (22) inches. Foot marker, slabs, ledgers, cradles, coping, boxing or tiling shall not be allowed.
  • All flowers (artificial, potted and/or real) shall be placed in a container and the container shall be placed on the base of the monument.

 

Section 7 of Greenwich Cemetery

  • No more than one monument shall be permitted per lot.
  • All structures must be parallel with the aisles.
  • Monuments must be installed at the top of the lot with the front of the monument base measuring 2’6” from the rear lot line as measured from the center of the rear cemetery lot markers and aligned with existing monuments
  • Base of the monument shall not exceed 80% of the width of the lot
  • Base of the monument not to exceed 18” in depth
  • No more than one marker shall be permitted per grave space
  • Markers must be installed at the foot of the grave, 6” from the bottom lot line as measured from the center of the front lot markers, aligned with existing markers, and flush with the ground.
  • Maximum marker size allowed per space is 18” X 30”
  • Vases are allowed if permanently affixed to the monument or top of the base
  • No bevel markers or ledger stones are allowed (all markers shall be flush with the ground)
  • No cradles, boxing, tilting, or coping permitted
  • If corner markers are installed, they must be installed flat with the ground and inside the existing cemetery markers
     

Single-Space Lots

The following rules pertain to single-space lots (Greenwich Section 12, Bonaventure Section S, Blocks S, T and U, and Laurel Grove Stranger’s Ground).

  • Only Flat markers flush with the ground will be permitted.
  • No upright monuments are allowed on single space lots. Flat markers must be aligned with other flat markers in the same block.
  • Flat markers shall be no more than twenty-six inches (26") long and fourteen inches (14") wide per single space.
  • Two adjacent spaces owned by a single party may have a single flat marker covering both spaces no more than fifty (50) inches long by eighteen (18) inches wide.
  • Flat markers must be aligned with other flat markers in that section.
  • Lots will be sold or used in an order determined by the Director of Cemeteries.
