To nurture excellence and diversity to improve the social fabric and quality of life for Savannah’s citizens, regardless of income, education, disabilities, or ethnicity; and to provide leadership in fostering programs that educate and expose citizens to a rich and diverse range of cultural expressions, to support artistic programs that celebrate creativity, create educational opportunities, encourage economic growth and enhance Savannah’s reputation as a cultural destination.
Established in 1979 by the City of Savannah, the Department of Cultural Affairs has been serving as the city’s creative hub providing opportunities for the community to gather, to be inspired, and to create and enjoy for over 30 years. The 10,000 square foot facility is home to DCA's offices as well as a community art gallery, black box theater and art studios. Each year, thousands visit DCA to participate in offerings from classes and art camps, to lectures, theater productions and gallery exhibitions. The City of Savannah's Department of Cultural Affairs. is located at 9 West Henry Street (between Bull and Whitaker Streets). Free, off-street parking is available in the lot adjacent to our building
Functions of the Department of Cultural Affairs' staff include: marketing services; technical assistance to cultural organizations; in-house production of programs for youth, theatrical productions, festivals and visual arts workshops; and oversight of the contracts for cultural services with non-profit organizations.
