Savannah Fire Training Division
The Savannah Fire and Emergency Services Training Division is charged with the training and education of all departmental members in the areas of Fire, Rescue and related emergency services.

The training staff is operated by a chief of fire training and three training captains who are responsible for developing and delivering training programs that meet or exceed applicable state and national standards for fire and emergency service personnel.

In addition to the training and education requirements addressed by the training division, the training staff is also charged with the safety, health and wellness of all operations personnel. Each training captain serves as the department's incident safety officer on multi-unit responses while the chief of fire training serves as the departments health and safety officer. The training division staff also spearheads the bureau's recruiting efforts.

In-Service Training
All Savannah firefighters, including company officers, are required to complete a minimum 240 hours of training per year. In addition, they must complete a minimum 24 hours of continuing education approved by the Georgia firefighters standards and training council. All company officers and firefighters also must successfully complete the annual core competency evaluation - which assesses practical skills as specified by the Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Council - and they must also complete a Hazmat refresher course. Savannah firefighters also include physical fitness training in their daily routines.

In addition, drivers, relief drivers, and master firefighters are required to complete additional driver training. Company officers and chief officers also must complete additional supervisory training each year. Fire inspectors and fire marshals are required to complete continuing education requirements and successfully complete core competency evaluations.
