On December 1, 2016, the Department of Labor’s final rule updating the overtime regulations went into effect. This Final Rule of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) automatically extends overtime pay eligibility to 4.2 million workers. The rule will entitle most salaried white collar workers earning less than $913 a week ($47,476 a year) to overtime pay. Employers will have a choice either to increase their employees’ salaries to at least the new salary threshold, pay workers the overtime premium for extra hours, or limit their work to 40 hours in a week.

For more information about how the Final Rule impacts small businesses, please refer to the Department of Labor's Small Business Guide.
