Trash and Garbage
Garbage must be placed in your green, City-issued garbage cart. Recycling must be placed in your black and yellow recycling cart. Carts should be placed at their collection spot (either curbside or in the lane) by 7 a.m. on collection day and removed by 7 p.m. the same day.
Leaves, grass or sticks should be placed in brown biodegradable bags (15 bag limit) or containers (not city-issued carts) no more than 30 gallons in size. Larger sticks may be placed in small bundles of less than 4 feet that take no more than 5 minutes to remove
Bulk Item Pick-Up
The Bulk Item Pick-up (BIP) program provides once a month collection of bulk items (white goods-appliances, furniture, mattress, etc.) to all areas within the City of Savannah. In 2014, City of Savannah Sanitation Bureau introduced a new, more efficient and cost-effective system for bulk item collection. Residents still have a scheduled week each month to receive bulk item collection with no additional charge, but collection is no longer be automatic. Residents must call 311 by the Friday prior to their scheduled week of collection to receive no-fee bulk item collection service. Residents will be charged a fee for the collection of any bulk items put out for pick-up that have not been called in to 311 by the Friday deadline. Any items placed out off-schedule will also be removed for a fee. Items that will NOT be collected by bulk item pickup include yard waste, construction material, hazardous materials and liquid waste.
