Chatham County maintains permanent outdoor watering restrictions
There are permanent outdoor watering restrictions for Chatham County and the surrounding 19 Coastal Georgia Counties due to salt water intruding into our drinking water supply, the Floridan Aquifer. Pumping reductions have been mandated by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. The permanent restrictions are as follows:
For EVEN-numbered and UN-numbered residents, you can only water on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
For ODD-numbered residents, you can only water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
No watering on Fridays.
No watering between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Large cones of depression have formed around many wells in Coastal Georgia, as seen above. These cones of depression cause a drop in pressure that would normally keep saltwater our of our groundwater supply.
Violation of the City of Savannah’s Water Restrictions Ordinance may subject offenders to fines.
If you have any questions or concerns about current water restrictions, please contact the Environmental Affairs Office at (912) 651-6943. To report watering violations, please call 311.
