RESEARCH LIBRARY & MUNICIPAL ARCHIVES
The Research Library & Municipal Archives (RLMA) collects, manages, preserves and makes accessible records documenting the City of Savannah's history; administers the records management program and the City Records Center to increase the efficiency of City agencies; and shares the City's history with City employees, citizens and visitors through outreach activities.
Archival Collections. The Library & Archives serves reference requests from researchers and the general public which relate to archival and historical City records unders its administration in the City Records Center (CRC). Like the U. S. Bicentennial Time Capsule in City Hall’s foyer, holding mementos of Savannah’s residents, the Municipal Archives is a time capsule of City history dating back to the incorporation of the City of Savannah municipal government in 1789. Research Library Collections. The Library & Archives serves the library information needs of City of Savannah employees, by maintaining collections of professional and technical publications related to City government functions and by performing reference and research services related to City government information needs. Borrowing privileges are extended only to City employees.
Library Network Affiliations. The Research Library & Municipal Archives is a member of the national/international, regional, and state library networks listed below and participates in their periodical union listing databases and systems. The Library's 3-character symbol is GSG.
OCLC. The Online Computer Library Center, Inc. (Founded 1967). Comprised of over 72,000 participating libraries in the United States and 170 countries and territories worldwide, sharing the WORLDCAT database of over 1.8 billion items in English and nearly 500 other languages. <www.oclc.org>
LYRASIS (Created in 2009 by the merger of SOLINET, PALINET, and NELINET). The nation's largest inter-regional library network, comprised of over 1,900 members serving more than 4,000 individual institutions and group memberships including academic, public, special and school libraries, information centers, and cultural organizations, in 22 Southeastern, Mid-Atlantic, and New England states, as well as Puerto Rico and the U. GOLD. The Georgia Online Database (Founded 1988). The resource-sharing consortium comprised of over 200 Georgia libraries, sharing over 18 million database records and over 400,000 serials holdings statements. <www.georgialibraries.org/lib/gold.html>
