To serve the public by ensuring the safety and value of the built environment through effective zoning and building code enforcement.
Department Services
The Development Services Department (DSD) is designed to be a “one-stop shop” for developers by locating the city's engineering, inspections, design & construction staff into one central building. The DSD’s “one-stop shop” is located at 5515 Abercorn Street on the south side of Savannah.
The DSD provides and manages a variety of services, including:
- Performing inspections and issuing permits for new & renovated construction
- Offering advice and assistance for parties undertaking construction projects
- Overseeing the construction of the City’s Capital Improvement Project (CIP) buildings
- Managing a geographic information system (GIS) which integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information
- Reviewing plats and using modern technology to define vertical and horizontal control to identify property lines, elevations and other surveying points for City use
