Mobility & Parking Services announces the expansion of services at the pay-and-display parking meters to include acceptance of “smart cards.”Smart cards are pre-paid parking cards that can be used at the pay-and-display parking meters in addition to coins, currency, and credit cards. Pay and display meters are located in the general area bounded by River Street, Broughton Street, Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, and East Broad Street.
Cards are the same size as a credit card and are available in denominations of $25, $50, $75, and $100. Initially the cards will be available for sale at the Parking Services office located in the Bryan Street Garage at Bryan and Abercorn Streets. Plans call for expansion of sales locations.
Each pay-and-display meter has brief, concise smart card instructions on its face. When the smart card is inserted in the meter the customer is shown how much value is on the card before and after the transaction.
There will be a $2 per card fee added to the face value of the card to cover the cost of manufacturing.
