| Cemetery Conservation
A professional Cemetery Conservation Program has grown from a single Cemetery Rehabilitation Specialist position created in 1986. Backed by administrative and community support, the program has evolved into a first-class program with no rivals in the Southeast. Today, a professional Cemeteries Conservation Coordinator, assisted by a Conservation Technician and a Senior Maintenance Worker conserve abandoned, dilapidated cemetery structures on approximately 40 cemetery lots annually. The focus of the program has evolved from stone to masonry to iron and now includes precious metals such as brass, bronze and copper. The staff is capable of handling complex conservation projects including mausoleums and fine statuary. The staff also provides professional assistance to other departments involved with conservation.
