A professional Cemetery Services Program was created in 2000 to assist cemetery customers in purchasing interment rights and planning interment services. The department now operates as a quasi-enterprise and provides first rate cemetery services. Alternatives are available including prime water-front cemetery space, family cemetery lots, economical burial spaces, cremation spaces, and an attractive columbarium (or a mausoleum for cremated remains). A full-time Cemetery Services Coordinator is available to meet with families in a comfortable setting and escort them to cemetery sites. Interment services planned in the municipal cemeteries will be coordinated with any funeral directors and/or monument companies involved. The department strives to provide timely, reliable information and support to customers when making death-care decisions.

Interment space is currently available in both Bonaventure and Greenwich Cemeteries, and there is adequate space in existing cemetery sections for the next twenty years. Additional undeveloped space remains available for future use. The City rightfully boasts the best cemetery sites at the most reasonable prices in the county. The main office at Bonaventure Cemetery is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments are appreciated but not required.

Tents and chairs are available for cremation or memorial services when consumers chose not to utilize funeral directors or monument companies. Work permits are issued for landscaping or the installation of grave markers, monuments or other cemetery structures. Perpetual care is now included in the fee for interment rights; however, annual or perpetual care agreements are available for owners who purchased interment rights in which care was not included. Tours and special events must be registered in advance and after-hour cemetery access is available. Interment instructions may be filed prior to need and cemetery lot diagrams are also available. The department also provides assistance in acquiring vital record information. These are some of the many services provided by the Department of cemeteries.
