Cemetery Records
A major effort has been underway since 1997 to enter all municipal cemetery records on an electronic database which will be available to the public on the World Wide Web. The data entry portion is nearing completion; however, considerable time will be required to double check, verify and correct this data before it is available to the public. It is projected to be available by 2008.
In the meantime, please contact the Department of Cemeteries for cemetery records. If you need just a record or two, the staff will gladly assist you. If you need more than 15 minutes worth of research, please submit your request in writing. The cost for research is $12.50 per hour and $0.25 per copy.
If you would like to research on your own, many of the earliest records are available at the Bull Street Branch of the Liveoak Public Library and at the Georgia Historical Society Library, both located in Savannah. Copies of some records are also available on microfilm at the State Archives in Atlanta. |
