Greenwich Cemetery Expansion

Greenwich is currently the only municipal cemetery which has space left to be developed for the interment of human dead. It is also the only municipal cemetery which generates more revenue than the operating expenses for the cemetery. It has the potential to generate significant revenue for another 150 years through the sales of interment rights and the provision of cemetery services.

Greenwich Cemetery is more than 60 acres with approximately 50 acres currently developed for burials. Interment rights to Sections 10, 11, and 13 have already been sold out and the remaining interment rights in Sections 1, 8, 9 and 12 are projected to be sold by 2020. Additional sections will be developed to ensure that there will be adequate interment space for citizens for the 21st Century in a park-like setting.

There are 5 Sections (2, 3, 4, 6 and 7) to be developed in Greenwich Cemetery which are more than 10 acres in area. Although future trends will be analyzed, approximately 5 acres (Sections 6 and 7) of Greenwich Cemetery will be developed prior to 2020. These sections are near Greenwich Park which will serve as a central feature for the new area.
