| Bonaventure Water Line Replacement
A very extensive water line system was installed in Bonaventure Cemetery prior to the purchase of the cemetery by the City of Savannah. The system once included a pump and a water tower but is currently part of the municipal water system. The system is not effectively compartmentalized making it frequently necessary to shut down the entire system for minor repairs and releasing thousands of gallons of water in order to depressurize the system. This is inconvenient, expensive and a waste of a precious natural resource.
A plan has been developed to replace approximately 2,500’ of dilapidated water main with a new compartmentalized system. One segment of main was replaced as part of the Sheftall Way Roadway Improvement Project in 2008. The next segment will extend from the main water valve, down Wiltberger Way, and tie into the existing segment. The main will include numerous valves so that various segments can be compartmentalized for repairs, while the main system remains fully charged and functional.
This project will remain in progress until 2019. |
