World War II in Savannah - Chatham County's Fallen
Return to "World War II in Savannah" page

The Veterans Council of Chatham County is erecting a World War II Monument, titled "A World Apart," in the Rousakis Riverfront Plaza overlooking the Savannah River to honor Chatham County's World War II veterans, both living and dead, and the contributions of the greater Chatham County community to the national war effort. The monument will include an engraved Georgia granite wall honoring those from Chatham County who died while serving during World War II. The City of Savannah, Research Library & Municipal Archives assisted the Veterans Council in compiling a list of local World War II dead for public review and verification. All known dead are included in the attached list. Names marked with an asterisk (*) will be grandfathered in and automatically included in the memorial. Those marked with a plus (+) require verification through military personnel records to determine if they are eligible for inclusion based on the approved criteria.

For more information please contact the Archivist at Lspracher@savannahga.gov or (912) 651-6411.
